Homeowners Insurance Homeowners

Coverage for primary homes, secondary homes, seasonal homes, condos, and rental properties.

Who this is for

People who own the home they live in · Owners of a second or vacation home · Landlords who rent a house to tenants · Anyone a mortgage lender requires to keep the property insured

Homeowners insurance is the policy that protects the house you live in — and often the people and belongings inside it. If a fire, storm, theft, or a lawsuit happens, this is usually the first policy that responds.

How it works

Think of a homeowners policy as four jobs in one. It can help rebuild or repair the house (dwelling), cover other structures like a garage or fence, replace personal belongings, and pay if someone is hurt on your property and you are responsible. Many policies also help with extra living costs if you cannot stay in the home while it is being repaired. We write coverage for primary homes, second homes, seasonal houses, condominiums, and rental properties. The right version depends on how the property is used, how it is built, and what it would cost to rebuild today — not what you paid years ago.

Who this is for

  • People who own the home they live in
  • Owners of a second or vacation home
  • Landlords who rent a house to tenants
  • Anyone a mortgage lender requires to keep the property insured

What it typically covers

  • The house itself and attached structures
  • Personal belongings such as furniture, clothing, and electronics
  • Liability if a guest is injured and you are responsible
  • Additional living expenses if the home is temporarily unlivable

A simple example

A kitchen fire damages cabinets, smoke-fills bedrooms, and forces the family into a hotel for two weeks. The policy can help pay to repair the kitchen, replace damaged belongings, and cover the hotel — subject to the deductible and limits.

Good to know

  • Flood and earthquake are usually not included and need their own policies.
  • Rebuild cost often rises faster than market value, so limits should be reviewed at renewal.

Coverage, eligibility, and terms vary by location and underwriting.
