Protection against flood-related damage.
If water comes from overflowing rain, a river, storm surge, or the ground, a normal homeowners or renters policy usually will not pay. Flood insurance is a separate policy for that specific risk.
Flood is one of the most common — and most misunderstood — gaps in personal insurance. A standard home policy is built for fire, wind, and theft, not for water that rises from outside. Flood coverage can be written for the building, the contents, or both. It matters in mapped high-risk zones, where a mortgage lender often requires it, and it also matters outside those zones. A large share of flood claims happen in areas that were never labeled “high risk.” We help you look at the address, the elevation story, and whether you need building coverage, contents coverage, or both — including for second homes and rentals.
Who this is for
What it typically covers
A simple example
A slow-moving storm drops a foot of rain. Water comes in through the garage and ruins flooring, appliances, and boxed belongings. Without a flood policy, the homeowners claim for that water is often denied.
Good to know
Coverage, eligibility, and terms vary by location and underwriting.
